William Crosby (flourished 1859-1873) William Crosby was born in the North-East of England and settled in the industrial city of Sunderland. Crosby was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy and the Society of British Artists in London, where he showed his highly detailed genre scenes. Crosby painted at a time of industrial change, with the increased urbanisation of the population Crosby’s patrons favoured scenes of bygone rural idyll. Today Crosby’s work can be seen in the public museum of Sunderland.
