Hans Andreas Dahl, A Summers Day by the Fjord
Hans Andreas Dahl (1881-1919) Hans Andreas Dahl was the son and only pupil of the famous Norwegian Landscape painter Hans Dahl. As such their styles and choice of subject are similar although arguably Hans Andreas can be considered a more gifted artist, his panoramic scenes have more vibrancy to them and he was certainly a better painter of the human form. Hans Andreas grew up in Dusseldorf in Germany where his father was based; however he spent the summers in Balestrand on the fjordlands of his native Norway. Sadly he had a short life owing to an act of unselfish bravery; whilst helping rescue people from a burning building in Oslo he contracted a lung infection which was to prove fatal. Hans Andreas was survived by his father who acknowledged that his son was the more gifted artist.
