  • Artist Biography
    • Janine Wesselmann is known worldwide for her brilliant, complex and provocative parodies of European and American social life. She completed her formal education in the United States and received her degree from Cornell University in 1969. She then returned to a life of whirlwind travels and painting throughout France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, England and the Caribbean. The impact of years of balancing between social milieu and political arenas imbues her work with a cosmopolitan sensitivity and humor that resonates deeply with her admirers. Her rich color and texture remind us of the Renaissance, her lightness of touch, the impressionist era and her artistic insights are unique and masterful. Her Passion for painting the cultural richness of vanishing ways of life brought her enormous recognition in both Europe and the United States and she was awarded the accolade of Outstanding Contribution to the Arts in 1992. She was the first American Woman to be accepted into the permanent collection d’Art Modern del la Ville de Paris and the Centro Culturale d’Italia, Rome. She has been awarded the endorsements of Ambassadors, Senators, Governors and princes and her work hangs in museums and collections throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and the United States.
