  • Artist Biography
    • Axel Haartman (Pseudonym: Kimito Ronnud) 1879-1969 Finnish. Axel August Haartman was a Finnish painter. He was an important figure in the development of art in Finland. Haartman initially studied in Turku and later, from 1894 to 1898, he continued his studies in Helsinki at the Finnish Art Association's drawing school and abroad in Paris 1906-1907 and in 1920 in Munich, where his teacher was Wassily Kandinsky. Highlights amongst his many achievements include exhibiting at the Salon des Independent in 1911 and painting the altarpiece of Ylimarku Church in 1933. He spent much of his youth abroad and financed his stay by writing articles in domestic journals. In addition to his career as an artist from 1916 he produced the influential art based publication Veckans Krönika. Haartman was also the Curator of the Turku Art Museum , 1923-1953. Haartman lived from 1923 in Naantali, where he built the Haartman House designed by architect Erik Bryggman, the house today serves as a museum to his work. Year 1958. Oil on artist board.
